Answers to Your WiFi Questions

Can BTS help with Router problems?

Yes. Routers are devices that just pass data packets from one network to another by handing off the data packets from the originating network to the next network closer to the destination. By connecting many routers all over the internet, you’re able to see websites or webcams far far away from each other. Many devices have routing software integrated- such as your cable modem, DSL modem or fiber internet modem.

Can BTS help with No Internet?

Absolutely! There are four main parts to a typical “internet connection”. There’s your local network (LAN), the Router, a DNS server and the modem. Sometimes each of these components are combined in to one device. Other times, these are separate devices. All of them have a specific task to get your devices connected to the internet. Having no internet means one of them is failing either because it’s physically broken, or it’s misconfigured. We can test each part of the connection and get you back up and going.

What happens during a WiFi Setup?

During a typical WiFi setup, we will gather information about the devices that connect to the WiFi, the closest router or switch that the WiFi access point connects to, and learn all that we can about the intended use of the WiFi. That way we can tailor its installation (physical placement) and configuration (about the network its connected to) to formulate a WiFi Setup plan. Once we have all the information we can program the WiFi to your needs and then install it at the best location for you.

What things can cause a Router Issue?

Routers “route” traffic from one network to another. They’re an integral part of the internet, large and small networks. To route traffic, they need interfaces. These interfaces are basically physical connections to each network. The software inside the router decides what direction or other network to route incoming traffic to- similar to a GPS telling you which streets to turn at. The GPS knows the best or most efficient route to direct traffic to get to its destination. The most common router issues are one of three things. Either an interface has failed, the router is misconfigured or the router’s “routing table” (a list of previously requested destinations) has been corrupted so it contains the “wrong directions”. We can help!

Why is my WiFi not working?

The answer to this question depends heavily on what symptoms you’re seeing. If your device isn’t showing that it’s connected to the WiFi network, then you could have a bad password or maybe the radio in your device is not compatible with the WiFi system’s radio. Some run on different frequencies like 2.4 GHz and 5.0GHz for the US, other countries have different radio frequencies. Our frequencies are decided by the Federal Communications Commission. If your device show’s it’s connected to the WiFi, but you don’t have internet- there could be something wrong with your local area network address, the DHCP server, the DNS server or the router. Once again- you betcha’ we can help with that!
